A Texas Art Gal

My art is deeply personal. It usually states how I feel about the subject, and what is going on with me as a result of my environment.

I have always been excited by color, texture, and motion, either in a sculpted piece or in a painting. If it’s a painting, the color and subject are very important. Once I get the subject on canvas, it has to start showing itself in the way of contrast, subject matter, and color or I start to lose interest. The same thing about a metal piece, though I am a bit more patient with this type art work.

I work from photos that I have taken as a reference piece. Sometimes I will use what my daughter or son-in-law has photographed, with their permission. I was encouraged by one of my art instructors to use photography to get around my inability to draw well.

I have branched into silk screen printing and pottery. While pursing my interests in photography, I had some success. I went on to graduate with a BFA from Tulsa University. I was also chosen by then governor, George Nigh, along with some other artists to exhibit my photos at the Oklahoma State Capital.

My successes also include Midwestern State University, Wichita Falls Texas, purchasing one of my sculpted pieces, and one of my wooden sculptures is also featured in the Red Bud Gallery in Houston, Texas.
